The Development and Evaluation of a Network for Producing and Sharing Video Presentations

Abstract This paper describes the technology and methodology used in the development and usability evaluation of a network, named PresentationTube, to help faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, produce and share quality video presentations for their students. The network offers a desktop application for recording video presentations and an online platform to share presentations online. The recorder allows faculty members to narrate and annotate PowerPoint slides and synchronize a variety of visual aids, including webcam footage, whiteboard, drawing board, and web browser. The platform uses YouTube API to upload and integrate videos with scrollable slide thumbnails. Flickr is a photo management and sharing online application that provides a place to share photos and meet people with similar interests, even if photography is not their focus. Using Flickr, users can upload, download, tag, rate, and c om ment on photos. Users can manage and organize images, and create private or public groups to cultivate a sense of c om munity.   Flickr offers a vast collection of images that are not available elsewhere, and its collaborative tools have made it popular in higher education.
